About Keats Cottage

The rear part of Keats Cottage encompasses the historic Eglantine Cottage. It was here in the late 1700’s & early 1800’s that the legendary Mrs Williams played host to John Keats, the famous romantic poet, George Morland, the artist and Thomas Morton, dramatist. They came to the island to experience and be inspired by the wonderful scenery and unspoilt landscape.

Keats, who was already starting to succumb to the ravages of consumption particularly appreciated Mrs Williams attention to his care and comfort. Carrying on in this tradition, the now newly renovated Keats Cottage is ready, once again, to welcome guests.
